The Lindenhofkeller is a restaurant for true epicureans. René Klaus Hofer brings together what can only be expected from a first class restaurant: excellent food, an extensive wine selection, exemplary service and genuine hospitality.

When we entered the Lindenhofkeller, we were greeted personally by the chef. For me, a sign of true hospitality. Assigned to our table, we bask in the extremely warm and stylish ambience of the restaurant. Knowing René’s passion for wine over culinary delights, I guess he would rather prefer to recommend something right away from his impressive list. But of course, he begins by introducing his very promising menu.

As a starter, we opt for the parsnip soup with fresh truffles, presented creamy and aromatic, and the house smoked slipper lobster alongside salmon from Loch Fyne. This is marinated - a closely guarded recipe - and smoked over the open fire using oak chips and sawdust from old whiskey barrels. Well worth the effort as it is truly delectable!

For the main course we choose the diced Engadine fillet of beef with Pommery mustard sauce and homemade spaetzle and ‘pistou crusted’ grilled bison tenderloin, with apple balsamic jus, savoy cabbage and homemade spring roll. The succulent beef tenderloin pieces melt in your mouth as do the pink roasted bison, wonderfully tender and juicy. A thoroughly enjoyable experience, for which the Lindenhofkeller has always been reliable.

My tip is the delightful patio, which on a balmy summer evening promises a feeling of being on holiday. And should this be closed, then I recommend an after dinner stroll up to the Lindenhof. This historic square in the centre of Zurich's old town is one of the more beautiful places in the Limmat city. From here you can enjoy an extraordinary view of the old houses on the Schipfe and Fortunagasse as well as the Limmatquai and the Grossmünster.
