.How to get there

How long can a string of cheese get? And anyway, is there anything more satisfying on a dark winter's evening than liquid cheese? One thing is certain: if you are looking for a traditional and delicious cheese fondue in Zurich at fondue time, you can't go past Le Dézaley in Niederdorf.

The traditional restaurant right at the foot of the cathedral is known for its cheese fondue and other Vaudois and Swiss specialities such as rösti. The cheese fondue is prepared according to an age-old family recipe and tastes wonderfully creamy and delicious. As it should be, it is served with crispy house bread and, if desired, crunchy gherkins, silver onions and baby corn. This Swiss classic also tastes delicious with morels or delicate black truffles.

Even those who don't want to indulge in the "Chäs" craving at Le Dézaley will be well catered for with delicious Vaud cabbage sausage and snails, Zürcher Geschnetzeltem, butter-fried perch fillets and a seasonally changing menu. Meat also tastes delicious from the fondue pot.

The remarkable whitewashed building is not only traditional when it comes to specialities, as there has been a restaurant within these walls since 1883, under the name Dézaley since 1903. The building itself dates back to at least the 13th century when it was first mentioned. Since then, it has, of course, been regularly modernised, but the interior and the beautiful covered garden have retained their cosy, authentic character.
