Hidden gems are hotels that shine with their exceptionality, like precious jewellery. The Leo Grand in Vienna's 1st district is one such gem. The five-star hotel offers 76 individual rooms and suites in an elegant design and an incredibly central location next to St. Stephen's Cathedral.
Imagine the world of Alice in Wonderland and combine it with the British style of designer Laura Ashley - that's how unique you can stay at The Leo Grand Hotel in the heart of Vienna. The owners, the Lenikus family, who already successfully run the Hotel Topazz Lamée in Vienna, have successfully transformed a former residential building near the Stephansdom in the 1st district into a modern boutique hotel with a wow factor and five-star service.
The almost 80 rooms and suites are as enchanting as they are unique, furnished by the designer and owner Gabriele Lenikus herself. No two are alike. Self-designed wallpaper, antique furniture and modern elements meet stylish powder tones and extravagant accessories to create an unmistakable interior.
Particularly charming: the suites on the top floor in the “Sam” wing, named after the former owner of the house, Samuel Oppenheimer. The load-bearing beams of the roof truss are exposed and form a successful contrast to the sumptuous furnishings, which include an ornamental fireplace, a sky-blue dressing table, and a bed with high wall cushions bearing the curve of the famous Habsburg lip. Also unique: the view from the window directly onto St. Stephen's Cathedral!
“With The Leo Grand, we wanted to create a declaration of love to Vienna: beautifully colourful, lively and unique,” says Hotel Director Isabella Wexberg, who runs the hotel with passion and warmth. For almost 20 years, the listed baroque building, with its foundations dating back to Roman times, was completely renovated under strict conditions.
Today's luxury hotel is dedicated to Emperor Leopold I, who was once known for his eccentric character and penchant for culture and exoticism. “The Leo Grand is intended to encourage guests to experience Vienna as an adventure and enjoy the lightness of life, in the spirit of its namesake,” explains Isabella Wexberg.
And it succeeds! As a guest, you blossom in this environment full of noble opulence and artistic creativity. You also feel wonderfully valued and welcome at The Leo Grand. This is not only due to the courteous service but also to small details, such as the fact that the included minibar even contains a bottle of wine from the Lenikus family's own winery.
Our conclusion: The Leo Grand is not a hotel in the usual sense but a total work of art, a hidden gem that redefines luxury.
