Festive dinner buffet with live music
If you are a fan of North American tradition stranded in Vienna, you can still enjoy a proper Thanksgiving Dinner. Either have your turkey delivered to your home with carving instructions included – or simply venture out to the Parkring Restaurant at the Marriott Hotel in the heart of the city. If you want, you can even cut the first piece of your no longer feathered friend, the restaurant manager smiles. One of his regular guests insists on this honour every year.
We are curious about what to expect; upon entering, we feel instantly comforted by the pleasant ambiance. Despite the buffet area and the many guests, it doesn’t feel like being in a large hotel. The autumnal decorations go well with the tasteful interior. The food on the buffet looks deliciously sumptuous. It is the evening of the candlelight dinner, so the spacious restaurant is warmly lit. Small booths make for an intimate and private atmosphere.
However, we are not here for a romantic rendezvous but for testing the turkey in two styles "Classic" and "Brown Sugar Glazed". For starters Ceasar salad, followed by lobster cream with sesame rolls and crème of tomato soup with a basil bread chip are being served. We are in culinary heaven already.
And then the true celebration of Thanksgiving’s leading bird commences. Two gentlemen dressed in white and wearing large chef’s hats whet their knives impressively and then begin the cutting of two formidable birds. We watch transfixedly and can’t wait to taste the first morsel of delicate, juicy flesh. We can’t decide which variation is the best, they are all so good. The meat is served with glazed chestnuts, sweet potato purée, spring onions à la créme, red cabbage, a chestnut cranberry filling, and cranbary pomegranate chutney. Everything is just delightful.
We are glad to be indulging in one of the most beautiful North American traditions and agree that the Parkring Restaurant does it credit. A true feast for all the senses! We are entirely satisfied, but can’t resist to try some desserts; pumpkin cheesecake, lemon pie, and cranberry sorbet just look too tempting – and they more than live up to our expectations.
By the way: Did you know that the Vienna Marriott Hotel is known for its cheesecake? There is even a cheesecake tasting twice a year at the Garten Café. Guests queue up to try out the latest creations like Beetroot or Chestnut, made in the hotel’s very own cheesecake factory. But we will tell you all about that when the next tasting is coming up in spring.
Now it’s turkey time! The Parkring Restaurant at the Vienna Marriott Hotel holds this year’s traditional Thanksgiving Dinner from the 24th to the 26th of November.
