.How to get there
Where wealthy princesses used to stroll, aristocrats sat together and - according to rumour - Emperor Franz Joseph and his Sissi were guests, the whole of Vienna can now enjoy themselves. Until September, the historic baroque park of Palais Auersperg in the 8th district will become a "Shared Schanigarten".
The garden of the estate, built at the beginning of the 18th century, is a green city oasis - shielded by high walls from the noise of the cars whizzing outside. Even when the temperatures (as so often in Vienna) climb far above the 30-degree mark, it remains pleasantly cool inside here, in the shade of the houses and tall trees.
Another advantage - especially relevant if you're travelling in a large group: you don't have to discuss where to stop. Thanks to the wine and aperitivo lounge, champagne bar, urban beer garden and cocktail stand, everyone is happy here. The same goes for the food, which ranges from burgers, tacos and tapas to vegan dishes and Viennese classics like Kaiserschmarren.
With food and drinks, you can settle down in one of the many deckchairs scattered throughout the park. DJs play regularly, and there's yoga on Saturdays. Practical for all mums and dads who want to join in: Saturday is also Family Day with childcare. While the grown-ups do yoga, the little ones can listen to stories read to them by grandmas and grandpas from Café Vollpension or try their hand at the barbecue grill.
On special days, renowned Viennese top chefs will move into the kitchen of the Palais and transform the garden into an open-air restaurant - Otto Bauer from the 6th district is one of them.
Until August, sculptures by contemporary artists will be exhibited in the garden. Even though the setting has changed over the centuries, the park of Palais Auersperg still invites you to take a stroll.
