The name Sans Souci says it all. All my problems are left aside as soon as walk through the narrow corridor with marble floors and lined with statues that leads to the lobby. I'm charmed by the ambient lighting, stunning flower arrangements and baroque furniture, this space takes away your worries at once. I feel transported to Potsdam's Sanssouci Palace and found out that it actually served as namesake for this elegant boutique hotel by Vienna's museum quarter.
The impressive Jugendstil façade and the connection to its name giving institution evoke expectations of baroque, gold and heavy chandeliers – instead the interior speaks a balanced language of interchanging between modern and historic pieces. When I heard that yoo is the name behind their design, it explained the level of perfection and my state of surprise turned into mere curiosity about the rest of the building.
Despite its grandeur on the outside, the interior of the house seems exceptionally serene and intimate. Not all stories are used for hotel rooms, the top floors, for instance, serve as luxury apartments. The monumental stairwell, situated right next to the elevators, quickly make you forget you're in a hotel. The walls are adorned by Roy Lichtenstein, Allen Jones and Steve Kaufman originals. This way, your museum tour starts right at check-in!
The rooms all have different layouts, yet all of them are bright and very inviting. I expected a lot more decadence and was pleased to come upon this subtle kind of understatement. Finest luxury, discreet and effortless! Did I not live in Vienna anyway, I would get one of their rooms within a second. It is the overall concept that has absolutely convinced me.
Apart from the unique design, the hotel ensemble also includes gourmet restaurant La Véranda and Le Bar, a bar specialized in premium champagne. Not forgetting the exclusive little wellness hideaway SPA CLUB offering day spa amenities and 20-meter swim lanes.
