When I see the inside, I am almost glad that the rain has put an end to the first early summer capers. With the help of a local artist, the rooms of the Adlerhof - a legendary but ageing restaurant - have been transformed into an elegant oasis.

The ingredients: Golden light, cosy velvet benches and green plant splendour. Plus, painted walls that transport you to foreign worlds with colourful feathered birds and ancient ruins.

The day at the Adlerhof begins with brunch, which in turn starts with a glass of crémant. How else, you think, while sipping the crystal goblet and sinking into the velvet sofa. If you like, you can go straight to the Breakfast Negroni (also available in a non-alcoholic version) or start with a freshly mixed smoothie.

The menu includes everything your breakfast heart desires: whether classic (with hand rolls, spread, egg and jam), vegan (porridge, garden bean hummus, vegetables and hash browns) or sophisticated (with smoked salmon, buckwheat blinis and crème brulée).

The menu continues with popular classics: eggs poached to perfection on a homemade muffin, crispy fried sandwiches and egg dishes with toppings of your choice. The dishes are served on white, gold-rimmed plates like the ones my grandmother kept in the glass cabinet for special occasions.

She probably would have served thick egg pancakes for dessert. Instead, the Adlerhof serves vegan Oatmilk Pancakes - so popular that they are unfortunately sold out, but the crispy golden French toast is a delicious alternative (also thanks to the dab of vanilla cream that melts on top).

More sweets are available from the in-house patisserie. The wide selection (from crumbled cakes to elaborate cupcakes, it's all there) makes the Adlerhof the ideal spot for an afternoon coffee break, too. In the evening, the menu tempts with soups, salads and comfort food (dumplings, goulash and risotto!). This is accompanied by drinks and wines.

The restaurant also has a lovely terrace. So - when the sun returns - you can also sit outside nicely.
