I can’t help but make a beeline for the door as I pass the Munich store, a remarkable array of drinking glasses and carafes adorned with delicately painted artwork and a lovely pile of cashmere cloth catches my eye from the shop’s window. Inside, I discover innumerable kitchen and home objects, complimented by a selection of clothing.

I automatically begin taking the Gmundener company wares in hand for closer inspection. From Italian ceramic to Bohemian glassware to cotton cloths processed right here in Bayern, each piece is a handmade work of art. I’m soon to learn that the manufacturers deal exclusively with traditional artisan traders, with whom they’ve built a long-term relationship.

As important as this relationship is for the larger Stillsegler brand, close contact to the customers lies equally close to the heart of the Munich store’s team. Anyone who visits once is bound to visit a second time, not least because of the quality of their individual consultations.

In response to the high demand, owner Raphaela Geißler has also added a selection of cashmere clothing along with more casual fashion basics from labels like engage and Villa Gaia- just a sample from the portfolio of her second store, the Schwabinger boutique es ce fashion.

One of the specialities of both stores are the regular events held to introduce new collections and meet fellow fans of beautiful objects. Rest assured however, a side trip here is definitely worth it even on "normal" days!
