.How to get there
Munich, commonly described as the most northerly city of Italy, has a strong connection with Lake Garda, thanks to its geographic proximity. And the restaurant Salo delivers this Italian flair and la dolce vita straight to the Bavarian capital.
As an aperitif to the evening, we start with a refreshing “Crodino Sprizz”. The starters, a “Tartare di Avocado e Calamari” and fried cuttlefish with an orange-fennel salad, conjure a delightful potpourri of Italian flavours on our plates, just as we had hoped.
The choice for the main course is more difficult: There are simply too many Italian delicacies to choose from. Should we try the pizza? – offered in novel whole grain or spelt variations – or a plate of homemade pasta?
The truffle tagliolini almost made the cut, but in the end we decided on the fish. It simply sounded too good. The loup de mer straight off the grill is served together with rosemary potatoes. The “Salmone al Limone” arrives with a variation of colourful, seasonal vegetables.
For a sweet finish we round off our evening at Salo with a dessert medley. Italian classics including panna cotta are served alongside a chocolate soufflé – naturally, with a warm, gooey centre.
In the summer, when temperatures in Munich meet those in Italy, guests can enjoy their spritz at Salo alongside their pizza, pasta and more on the sunny terrace just in front of the restaurant – on tables with classic, chequered tablecloths… Almost like in Salo at Lake Garda!
