.How to get there
There is no shortage of good Italian restaurants in Munich. But a restaurant that reinterprets southern European specialities like ravioli and skilfully mixes them with oriental influences is unique. Pure Wine & Food in beautiful Schwabing offers just this dual cuisine with a matching - and harmonious! - wine accompaniment.
Owner Patrick Fischbacher manages the service in a charming and cheerful way and, thanks to decades of gastronomic experience, recommends the perfect wines to go with the food, which in turn is prepared by his wife. A well-rehearsed team that gives every guest the feeling of being an old acquaintance whose arrival makes them happy.
The food is bought exclusively according to the season, and an information box on the menu also reveals from which regional producers foodstuffs such as meat, bread and fish come. Chapeau for so much transparency and sustainable cooking. At Pure Wine & Food, you can order either a 4- or 5-course menu or à la carte.
We opt for the latter and start our meal with an aubergine au gratin with pomegranate, tahini date cream, and a South American ceviche of wild-caught shrimp in prickly pear broth. Wonderfully un-Italian, creative, incredibly delicious - and thanks to the jungle-like, leafy terrace, you feel like you're on holiday.
Patrick Fischbacher serves a cuvée of Riesling, Chardonnay and Manzoni from Lake Garda or a light drop from Ibiza. "Our wine list, with around 200 items, is a testament to our heart, soul and passion," says the owner. "They are natural wines, produced according to ecological guidelines without additives. We know the origin and signature of the winemaker of every bottle. We have worked with some of them for 20 years; others we even offer exclusively in Germany."
The intermediate course, ravioli with beetroot and goat's cheese filling, is just as convincing as the main courses: grilled octopus and tuna with black potato puree and tender braised lamb shank with potato and artichoke cassoulet. The nougat-chocolate mousse with matching dessert wine is the crowning glory of a successful meal. Pure pleasure.
