.How to get there
The new Café Poppi Farmer in Giesing is a beautiful duo of environmental protection and enjoyment. Inspired by Australian cuisine, they serve vegetarian-vegan breakfast all day long, delicious coffee specialities and a small selection of cakes - fantastic!
"The name is a tribute to our grandpa, colloquially Poppi in Australian, who as a farmer at Lake Starnberg was committed to producing good food and shared his gratitude and love of nature with us," explains owner Lisa Meßing.
Together with her brother Jonas Benedikt, she therefore founded Munich's first climate-neutral café at the end of 2021 in casually hip Giesing near the Nockherberg. Regionality and green electricity are just as important to the operators as that all the ingredients in the Poppi Farmer come exclusively from organic cultivation and are mainly homemade - from lemonades to banana bread to sourdough toast with poached egg. The dishes change several times a year, depending on which foods are in season.
A highlight for caffeine fans: the coffee specialities. Whether filtered, with chocolate topping, vegan butter or the alcoholic version as an espresso martini - co-owner Jonas Benedikt learned his barista know-how at Berlin's Bonanza, among other places. There are also so-called Medicinal Special Tonics to choose from, such as "Liquid Gold" with mushrooms and Ayurvedic spices or "Golden Milk Turmeric" - milk with turmeric, ginger and pepper.
Also noteworthy at Poppi Farmer: the half-glass kitchen and the appealing ambience in pastel shades. Mint-coloured coffee cups and pink walls combined with raffia lamps, beach pictures and dried flowers create a relaxed Bondi Beach feeling.
However, if you want to make a climate-neutral detour to Bavaria Down Under at the weekend, you should definitely make a reservation and be prepared for a bit of a wait. Regardless, Poppi Farmer is a wonderful, sustainable addition to Munich's gastro scene.
