In his restaurant Komu in Munich's historic city centre, Michelin-starred chef Christoph Kunz focuses on cosmopolitan design and dishes with three main components. The result: fine cuisine with minimalist ingredients that promise exuberant enjoyment. The chef's table, with a direct view of the open-plan kitchen, is a particularly pleasant place to sit.

There is undoubtedly something comforting and familiar about routine. But it is the new beginnings in life that enrich our existence and broaden our horizons. Top chef Christoph Kunz from Freiburg knows this, too. With the opening of his restaurant Komu, he has now ventured into self-employment - with success!

Since the summer of 2023, Christoph Kunz and his kitchen team have served culinary highlights at star level in Hackenstraße. After working for Alain Ducasse and Alois in the Dallmayr flagship restaurant, where he has already cooked up two Michelin stars, the Komu is a dream come true.

"The flavour experiences in my restaurant should be as different as the people," says Christoph Kunz, describing his concept. The chef, therefore, limits himself to a maximum of three main components per dish. This could be char, buttermilk and horseradish. Or a sweet variation of Williams Christ pear, sunflower seeds and purple curry for dessert.

The 38-year-old's style could be described as product cuisine with a French-Asian flavour - although Christoph Kunz does not like to commit himself to a particular direction: "Robinson Crusoe luxury describes my philosophy quite well, I think. Bold and creative, but always coherent. For me, it's all about character. On the plate, with the guests, in the team. It is precisely these rough edges, created by personality, that round off the culinary experience at Komu," he says.

This dedication to perfection without constraint is evident in every bite. Each course is perfectly coordinated, the combination of flavours is exciting, and the dishes are beautifully presented on various crockery. Thanks to a prominently placed chef's table in front of the kitchen, guests can even watch how the individual components are transformed into an exquisitely flavoured dish.

The elegant, light-coloured seating niches in the cosmopolitan fine dining restaurant are also positioned so guests can see into the open kitchen and watch the well-coordinated team preparing the food.

Four courses are served for lunch and up to eight for dinner. A great novelty: the "Schnitzel & Pearls" event every Saturday lunchtime at Komu, consisting of the three components schnitzel, champagne and caviar along with side dishes such as cranberries, sour cream and lettuce. An innovation that we love!
