Hecht und Sonne Casually charming kiosk at Lake Hollern

28 hectares of clear water, beaches and, right in the middle, a kiosk that is as idyllic as it is casual: the Sonne und Hecht location on Lake Hollern,  north of Munich and founded in 2021, is a real insider tip.

The surrounding nature is still untouched, few tourists hang around, and the ice cream tastes even better in a deck chair. "Our kiosk is a meeting place for young and old, where you can get delicious snacks, tasty cakes and refreshing drinks, as well as coffee from Bavarian roasteries and great BBQ in the summer," explain kiosk owners Tobias Aschenbrenner and Gregor Hauer. 

With just under 30 shady seats and a small area with lounge furniture and deck chairs, Hecht und Sonne is more like a beer garden than a kiosk, allowing the location to grow quietly. A Christmas market with a mulled wine stall and  christmas tree sale will make the kiosk a beautiful destination during the winter months. And then there is the plan for an open-air cinema  from summer 2023 on.

Whatever may come: The Hecht und Sonne is an excellent recommendation. Although it's a good 30 minutes from the centre of Munich by S-Bahn or car, the crowd is all the more relaxed and the atmosphere more laid-back. A feel-good place with heart and friendly staff and a sundowner with a view of the water and nature has never tasted better.
