Chocolate is her passion. Having grown up in India, there was nothing better for Priti Sarah Henseler than chocolate from her old home, that was Europe. After having tried out several professional paths and travelling around the world, love led her to Munich. In 2002, she decided to set up and open her own store.

It ought to be something feisty, a store that would colour up life, a place where different people meet, exuberantly filled with delicacies. She wants to cater to the joy and sensuality of people. And where do that better than in Munich's very own Glockenbachviertel? The district that has much of everything: people, religions, culture...

Many years ago, when I first entered "Götterspeise", German for "food of the Gods", I felt an immediate childhood nostalgia. A store with a bright mixture of sweets and goods from all over the world must be every child's dream: international chocolates, cakes baked by the store's own confectioner and a wide range of many different sweets. I especially recommend the fluffy light macarons and the wonderfully sweet-and-tart lemon tarte!

The store is divided into two rooms. The first one comprises a counter with dozens and dozens of silver boxes and tins that contain everything from gummies to Danish liquorice and countless other candies right next to said delicious cakes and macarons. Stacks of Moroccan tea glasses adorn the shelves, selected porcelain pieces, pre-packed confectionery, pralines and chocolate bars. Wines and sparkling wines that go along well with notes of chocolate are also on sale, as well as syrups, marmalades, biscuits, rare natural salts and so much more... I can't even get enough of all of it!

The story continues with the café that is set in the second room: you pick and choose to combine your own box of chocolates from a vast selection of pralines, have a coffee or tea, fresh juice or "raw chocolate drinks", the new superfood, while roaming the beautiful cookbooks available. The "Götterspeise" coffee and espresso house blend is roasted by a little country roaster nearby – you can taste that quality!

Her house brand chocolates are available as milk or dark chocolate containing 70% pure cocoa. Raw chocolates, however, also available at Götterspeise, contain up to 99% pure cocoa and are roasted at a maximum temperature of 40 degrees, that way preserving all the healthy goodness and the full taste of the bean.

The after-hour special: store owner Priti Henssler offers private chocolate tastings that teach you everything there is to know about the 'food of the Gods'. There is a reason why Götterspeise is the go-to spot for chocolate lovers in Munich!
