Our stay at Bayerischer Hof inevitably led us to one of the city's most beautiful rooftops, the Blue Spa Lounge. A phenomenal place on the roof of this historic hotel with a broad view over Munich that'll let you forget about time while enjoying seriously good drinks and fine cuisine. The setting sun is the only indicator for a beautiful day that is slowly coming to an end.

It's a crisp evening when we enter the bar, the terrace, however, is already fully seated. Thanks to an entirely glazed front, the remaining seats at the bar and the fireplace are in no way less enticing. I am sure this place is breathtaking during any time of the year. Especially the winter months must be equally as beautiful with a small fire burning in the chimney and the heated Polar Bar set up on the terrace.

While guests outside are starting to whip on blankets to get comfortable, we dedicate ourselves to the selection of drinks. The service is impeccable, our waiters tell us stories of endless views reaching as far as the Alps on cloudless days and serve two perfect Whiskey Sour. Hungry as we are we continue by roaming the menu.

From an early morning wellness breakfast to “Sous-vide Veal Tenderloin with Green Pea-Vinaigrette and Curly Endive” or “Yellow Thai Curry on Mini Corn, Field Peas and Lotus Root”, the kitchen serves healthy and light snacks throughout the day. Which isn't that surprising regarding the fact that the Blue Spa Lounge, designed by French star architect Andrée Putman, is part of the hotel's award-winning wellness area.

Later on, we're told that renowned BBQ events take place regularly throughout the summer months. Sadly, as we're only passing through, we will not be able to partake in any of it. Inspired by the BBQ idea, however, we order “Cod Ceviche on Guacamole and Wild Herb Salad”, as well as “Viktualienmarkt Summer Leaf Salads with Maracuja Dressing”, followed by almost barbecues “Dry Aged Beef Tenderloin on Rosemary Jus, Grilled Vegetables and Potatoes”.

The salad really tastes garden-fresh, the ceviche is pure summer and the meat could not be more tender even though it was not medium rare as ordered. But, well, sometimes the chef just knows his work. We put ourselves at ease, indulge in a “Warm Fondant au Chocolat with Mango Sorbet and Citrus Ragout” and observe the sun setting slowly behind the roofs of Munich. - That's how you do wellness!
