Lys Vintage Scandinavian Design Classics

Quickly after I entered the Lys Vintage showroom, a light-flooded space thanks to a massive display window in the front, I literally had an enlightenment: earlier, I had been guessing around about the origin of this very illustrious name. But there I was, standing amidst lamps and lights, beautifully arranged in between other Scandinavian furniture, and I realized: the name says it all. But let's take one thing at a time: 'lys' is Danish for light. Vintage solely stands for the Scandinavian design classics of the 1950s and 60s that this store is famous for.

The product range is perky and it becomes evident that shop owner Simone Sauvigny puts emphasis on durable, natural materials, fine craftsmanship and collaborations with European manufacturers. Channeling my inner interior decorator, seeing beautiful cushions by Danish brand OYOY made my heart jump, as well as those objects that are listed under Dusty Deco in the online store: delicate pastel accessories with a masculine twist, such as the grey-mint-colored Mademoiselle Lounge Chair, which at least in my head, I'm already repositioning in my own living room. Based on the original design from 1956, this chair is now being reproduced by Finnish design firm Artek.
