.How to get there
Only rarely does standing in line have such a mouth-watering effect on me the way it did while waiting at Delzepich ice cream parlor. Today's flavors are written on a big slate outside the store: yogurt-wild berries, oreo cookie, lime-basil, banana, nuts, … With each of them sounding delicious, I could barely choose!
Larissa Pawlowski spent the summers of her Aachen college years devouring the best ice cream in town. There were only two flavors available in Willi Delzepich's parlor, but people travelled from far away to get a scoop of the goodness. After the trained occupational therapist had finally managed to convince her sister Miriam Kraft of this extraordinary ice cream, the opened up shop in Hamburg in 2011. In memory of late Willi Delzepich they named it after him and took over his technique as well as the original recipes. Miriam Kraft is an illustrator and responsible for the store's pastel color palette and the brand logo.
“We do not use cream, just fresh whole milk from happy cows that live on Kruse farm in Rellingen. We also go completely without flavoring agents and softeners, our ice cream is natural all along”, Larissa tells me while I'm indulging in coconut ice cream. I don't usually have much of a sweet tooth, I'd always rather go for the savory option, but ever since I've come across this phenomenal Uhlenhorst ice cream parlor, I have to amend my statement. I am now a Delzepich-fan and I spare no effort to have at least one scoop of their fresh homemade ice cream when the sun comes out, because it actually makes you happy!
