Café by Dokuwa Fusion Food from Japan

Café by Dokuwa is one of our latest discoveries in Hamburg's Karoviertel. Since April, Aiko, Yuki, and Ken have been at the Schanze area with their Japanese bento boxes. On just 19 square metres, they serve fresh fusion food and Italian coffee every day. An exciting concept that can be found between small boutiques and nostalgic vintage shops in the quaint Marktstraße.

The great thing about the daily changing bento boxes is the wide variety and diversity - there are two new variations every day. In addition to fish and meat, there is always a veggie box (which is often even vegan). The team also uses regional and seasonal vegetables, which are given a Japanese touch.

Only 50 boxes are prepared every morning. So it's definitely important to be quick, as often all the bento boxes are sold out by 2 pm. A little tip: If you reserve a Bento box online via Instagram, you're guaranteed not to go empty-handed during your lunch break.

But it's not only the delicious Japanese bento boxes that attract people to Café by Dokuwa. The hot caffeine matcha from the gold-coloured portafilter machine and the Italian coffee beans roasted near the Hanseatic city are also always worth a visit.

By the way, the bento boxes and drinks are ordered directly to go at the window. But don't worry: boxes, straws, and cups are 100 per cent recyclable. With good weather, you can relax comfortably on small stools in front of the café. But if Hamburg's notoriously bad weather shows its best side again, there is also a small cosy seating area in the Café by Dokuwa.

We have already earmarked this hotspot for our next lunch date. Because from now on, you don't have to get on a plane in Hamburg to enjoy authentic fusion food from Japan and Italian coffee. Especially because the Dokuwa team now also runs a great izakaya in the immediate vicinity for the evening.
