.How to get there
Praline manufacturer Sawade has been around since 1880. Founded on Unter den Linden and quickly promoted to purveyor of the court, the Berlin confectioner has been producing the finest pralines, truffles, and specialty chocolates since. To this day, each piece is prepared by hand with the best ingredients and finest recipes.
The first flagship store opened two weeks ago in the Hackesche Höfe. Together with architect company BFS Design, owners Melanie and Bruno Hübel created a dreamy stage for the enchanting packs of pralines, truffles, and pastries from their manufacturer.
There are over 400 varieties of praline alone; the abundant selection lines the flagship store’s long counter, row upon row in an incredibly appetising presentation. From the heavenly Queen Luise Pastries - a house specialty to pralines with chocolate coatings in various colours. Adorned with nuts or sugar, or coated in tin paper. With and without alcohol. Pink or deep brown. Each an individual work of art.
Customers can select their favourite pieces very systematically from left to right, then have them packed in one of the beautifully arranged boxings, which await their use stacked on shelves from floor to ceiling. There are also ready-made editions with Christmas or traditional Berlin motives. Each more lovely than the last.
Along the right wall, multi-tier servers and antique platters are lined with packaged confectionery, marzipan loafs, and pastries. If nothing else, the golden lights and full-wall diamond mirror at the back of the store will whisk you away to the Golden Twenties. Certainly worth seeing, even if you haven’t fallen for the chocolate elixir.
For all praline-lovers who can’t make it to Berlin, Sawade has had an online shop for some time now, where you can send not only yourself, but friends, relatives, and business partners a sweet surprise. Sawade is spreading a piece of traditionally sweet Berlin around the world - we love it!
