.How to get there
Summer in Berlin makes people herd to the water, at least when it's not coming from above. A popular place for this is the Landwehrkanal, on the banks of which you can not only picnic, but also dine wonderfully with a view over the water in the beautiful Rutz Zollhaus. And since chef Florian Mennicken and his team always come up with something new, we present the current summer menu here.
In keeping with the summer, the theme is barbecue. Of course, it's not just mundane sausages that are put on the grill. The fine Berlin cuisine of the Rutz Zollhaus is characterised by its perfected German- or German-inspired dishes, which fit perfectly into the historic premises or the terrace of the half-timbered house on the Landwehrkanal surrounded by lush greenery.
A menu consisting of three starters, a main course, either meat or fish, and a dessert is offered. Not for nothing is the Rutz Zollhaus part of the Rutz family, whose link is the Schmidt wine shop with its rich selection of fine wines.
The summer menu is as follows:
Starters: "Tartar of Holsteiner Weideochsen & pickled cucumber with smoked crème fraîche, trout caviar, bacon dust" or "Ice-cold cucumber & smoked fish oil with grainy cream cheese, homemade baked peas, mustard seed" or "Grilled lettuce & rendered country bacon with honey tarragon vinaigrette".
Choice of main course: "BBQ rib of Hohenlohe woolly pork & honey-carrot sauce, with roasted potato, herb foam, poppy seeds" or "Catch of the day from our waters & BBQ carrot, with creamed corn, pickled red onion, salad, tarragon"
Dessert: "Almost blueberry pie & whey gin broth, with tagetes oil, yoghurt cream, pickled blueberry".
The menu, including wine pairing, costs 99 euros per person and is available until 9 September. Reservations can be placed via the Rutz Zollhaus website. If the weather is good, be sure to secure a table on the gorgeous terrace.
