At first glance, one could guess that the old half-timbered house directly on Kreuzberg's Landwehrkanal is a historic building. In fact, it once housed a washhouse. Later, restaurateur Herbert Beltle served regional Brandenburg cuisine, especially duck, here in the "Alter Zollhaus" for over 30 years - long before the hype.

Since last year, the former "Alte Zollhaus" has continued to be run under the aegis of the team around the Rutz and its kitchen director Marco Müller. Not, however, without first subjecting the listed building, which also has a picturesque terrace directly on the water, to an intensive renovation. Now, not only culinary tradition and modernity meet here in a remarkable way.

Considering that Mr and Mrs Schmidt, who have been supplying Berlin with the finest wines in their various Weinladen Schmidt branches for decades, are the owners of the Rutz Zollhaus, it comes as no surprise that it also boasts a remarkable wine selection. Among them are some excellent Bordeaux, real rarities and highlights.

How could it be otherwise, guests at the Rutz Zollhaus are also looked after by a true Berlin gastronomic veteran: host Henrik Canis is a real personality in Berlin. Chef Florian Mennicken and his kitchen team are responsible for the food culture presented here. The former previously worked in the Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer, the Facil and also in the Rutz.

Classics from the Rutz wine bar, further developed for Kreuzberg, are served. This means fine cuisine under the motto "saving German food culture". A motto that inevitably corresponds to the demands of Berlin Food Week 2021. So this year, the Rutz Zollhaus is also participating in the rethinking of climate-neutral gastronomy and sustainable agriculture with a city menu.
