16 years ago, I first got to meet Claudia Ruhsek, the mind behind RUBY design_living. It was at her first shop at the time and her brilliant collection of renowned brands and selected pieces of lesser known manufacturers had impressed me from the first moment. She quickly became a Berlin interior staple in my catalogue of go-to's.

To give more space to her visions and projects, she soon moved to a bigger, brighter location on Oranienburger Straße, offering enough space to perfectly stage her furniture, textiles, flooring, as well as complete kitchens or bathrooms.

Claudia Ruhsek put together a whole team of interior architects, designers and craftsmen, who have been working together successfully planning and realizing entire living concepts for private as well as business projects. The focus always leaning towards a smooth symbiosis of international trends, timelessness and the customer's very own touch. Classic brands include B&B Italia, Zanotta, Knoll International, Vitra, Porro and Living Divani.

In 2012, RUBY design_living was able to expand yet another time, moving into their ground floor loft-like 550 sqm big premises near Nordbahnhof. With an almost entirely glazed facade, these rooms truly bring to life the concepts she sets up in different spatial scenarios, while maintaining a perfect balance of homely feeling and modern minimalism proving her talent and expertise once again.

Which is, by the way, no news to many: clients include property developers and private owners commissioning entire housing concepts, from floor planning to interior decoration. With a faible for Poliform Varenna kitchens.

Furniture brands such as Fritz Hansen, Vitra, Zanotta, Cappellini, Arper or Moooi, lighting designs by Gubi, Ingo Maurer and Santa & Cole, garden furniture by Dedon, Fermob or Weishäupl – you will find a bit of everything that's good. A perfect mixture due to the addition of a few newcomers and smaller producers.

Custom-made carpets by Kasthall of Sweden or the glass bulbs by Bocci make me swoon time and again, and I get lost in table linen, vases and tableware, candlesticks, room scents or kitchenware that always come with a certain 'must have' effect.

All this makes RUBY design_living an absolute must on our special series Interior Design in Berlin.
