Mos Eisley - the lawless city of Star Wars, a sanctuary to hitchhikers, robbers, smugglers and other villains, was name bearer for the newest addition to Berlin's grand family of ridiculously good ice cream parlors. Apart from the fact that owner Daniela Teuber likes to infuse her ice cream with the occasional alcohol drib, the only thing I was surprised by during yesterday's visit was the tremendous quality of her homemade sweet cool.

Originally, Teuber's stay at Bologna's Ice Cream University was supposed to be nothing but a pastime during her Italy trip. But after a one-week workshop she was caught in the web of all things gelato. She completed several courses, started experimenting in her own kitchen and opened up her very own ice cream shop in May this year.

In a newly renovated house on Herrfurthplatz in Neukölln the former event manager has been manufacturing classics as well as extravagant flavors such as beer sorbet, grapefruit-tarragon, mojito or Guiness chocolate. Staying in sync with current trends, she also offers vegan varieties. One that's especially in demand: Peanut-Soy-Crunch.

The ice cream is rich in flavor,  just right in sweetness and is firm yet heavenly creamy in texture. Just the way I love it. A spoonful of dark chocolate and the light green pistachio ice cream convinced me in every aspect. My company gushed over her choice of cheesecake, fresh lemon and spicy mango ice cream.

Daniela Teuber is full of ideas, and not only in terms of flavors. Next on her list comes the take away-alternative: ready packed ice cream boxes to indulge in at home. Overall, Mos Eisley is a promising newcomer with heaps of potential that is almost certain not to disappoint. May the force be with her!
