Lalibela
Maybachufer 8
12047 Berlin-Neukölln
.How to get there
We have good news for all of Berlin's culinary globetrotters: The fourth restaurant of the Ethiopian restaurant chain Lalibela recently opened on Maybachufer. Although you are not in the colourful alleys of Addis Ababa but in the middle of Neukölln on the banks of the Landwehrkanal, the traditions and culture of Ethiopia come a little closer with every bite.
As in the previous restaurants, you can expect fresh and traditional Ethiopian dishes prepared with great care. On the menu at Lalibela you will not only find a wonderful selection of delicious meat dishes - we can especially recommend Beg Alicha, juicy lamb cooked in a mild, tasty sauce - but above all, a wide range of vegan and vegetarian dishes.
Ethiopian cuisine is known for its variety of flavours and spices. A typical meal consists of injera, a sour flatbread that serves as a base, and various side dishes such as doro wot (spicy chicken dish), sega key wot (beef) and vegetarian dishes such as misser wot (red lentils) or gomen (kale).
Not only the menu of Lalibela but also the atmosphere in the restaurant offers a glimpse into the diversity and beauty of Ethiopian culture. Above all, Ethiopian cuisine is characterised by a great sense of community. Meals are traditionally eaten with the hands from a large plate, together with families and friends. Genuine Ethiopian hospitality is also essential at Lalibela.
The restaurant is named after the rock churches of Lalibela, Ethiopia's first World Heritage Site and still a sacred place in Christianity. While you have to take a long way to visit the extraordinary rock churches, the way to culinary Ethiopia with the Lalibela is at least not quite so far and worth every metre for all those who like to discover the world.
