Heynstraße 8 in Pankow. The former apartment of Fritz Heyn. Two of the rooms have been kept in their original condition from 1893. In the first floor his two daughters have been living until they passed away in 1972 and they did not change a thing in these two rooms. Only on special occasions the covers had been lifted from the furniture, and families and friends were allowed to enter.

The street with tiny gardens and small-town atmosphere is putting you in the mood of past times. Entering the build a hallway decorated with mural paintings and moulding awaits you, letting you catch a sight of the idyllic backyard with cherry trees.

Even the staircase is pretty. It is arranged caringly and true to original. It is giving you an impression of how it must have looked when family Heyn moved here about 120 years ago. After ringing the doorbell, you are allowed to enter the flat through a narrow dimmed hallway.

On the right hand side there is a bright exhibition room and on the left hand a view into another world: the “Herrenzimmer”. The original interior is pulling you into another century. The walls are covered with paintings of the children, even with the ones that passed away in form of little angels. In one of the corners there is an impressive tiled stove. A chandelier is handing from the ceiling. Even the door frames are impressing. And of course the salon next doors can keep up with that!

Next to these two rooms there is a typical “Berliner Zimmer” in the apartment with elaborately decorated linoleum covered floor, a bathroom with a tiled bathtub and a kitchen, which is connected to a tiny maid chamber. A place like no other!
