.How to get there

Hamburg station is an unusual name for a museum. From that name you can already guess, that the building was not built with the intention to become one of the most important collections of contemporary art. Since 1846 today’s Museum of Contemporary Art was the last stop on the track between Berlin and Hamburg and it was an architectural example for Berlin’s station architecture.

Today it is the last historic station still existing in Berlin. With steadily growing volume of traffic it was soon clear, that Hamburger Bahnhof is too small to handle it and the train service was discontinued

Fortunately for all art friends it was reopened after substantial reconstructions as a museum with 13.000 square meters of exhibition space. Being a part of the national gallery Hamburger Bahnhof houses one of the world’s biggest and most important public collections of contemporary art. Next to an extensive permanent portfolio, exciting temporary exhibitions take place all the time.
