.How to get there
Named after the former delivery district 1000 Berlin 44, the Eins44 fine dining restaurant is hidden in a backyard in the centre of Neukölln. A former distillery is the perfect stage for the elegant, traditional dishes from all over Germany that head chef Julius Nowak and his team serve here. On 26 November and on the first three Sundays of Advent, this is an excellent menu based around the festive duck.
Last week, we were able to sample the menu in advance at Eins44 and were absolutely thrilled. It is served in either three or four courses, with all four courses being so delicious that you really shouldn't miss out on anything. All you need to bring is a good appetite. There are excellent corresponding wines or a non-alcoholic accompaniment.
The pike ravioli with pumpkin and tarragon beurre-blanc, which the Eins44 team serves to start the meal, is a poem and so festive that it could almost be Christmas. The classically prepared duck as breast and leg with red cabbage and dumplings is in no way inferior. The glazed chestnuts are an ingenious accompaniment.
The cheese course is followed by a flavoursome raclette cheese croquette and pommes aligot. The pickled quince is an ingenious accompaniment. The "Black Forest Cherry" dessert proves to be refreshingly unconventional in Neukölln fine dining style with Valrhona 64%, sour cherry sorbet and mascarpone.
The 3-course menu is served for 79 euros, and the 4-course version for 95 euros. On 26 November and the first three Sundays in Advent, it will be served at lunchtime from 12 and 12.30 pm and 2.30 and 3 pm. Anyone wishing to enjoy a truly festive feast before the festive season should make a reservation at Eins44 as soon as possible.
