.How to get there
It was enchantment from the second I stepped into Anne Hinkel's magical kingdom in Kreuzberg. The small café with an appended shop reminded me of tiny old village shops in Southern Sweden. Walls painted in a light gray, a farraginous collection of chairs and tables put together with a little something to discover in every corner. The display is filled with baked goods whose names alone will make you go weep: white-chocolate-blueberry-cheesecake, caramel-nut-cheesecake, carrot cake or my favorite, the raspberry-cheesecake.
Next to the sweets: sumptuous sandwiches, bagels and ciabattas, warm rosemary foccacia. And my beloved butter-filled pretzel, just like the South German original. The delicacies continue on the countertop: homemade mini Bundts, almond-coconut-balls and giant cookies. Chocolate croissants, raisin rolls and Portuguese natas are waiting to be devoured, and further back you'll find vintage candy jars filled with sweet goodness to indulge in.
With the soothing smell of fresh coffee, guests are enjoying the first rays of sunlight outside and it's almost too good to be true. It's spring in Berlin! Right in the middle of this beautiful scenery, that by the way continues inside the attached store where the trained visual merchandiser presents her newest catch that she finds at fairs and markets. With ease, she mixes old and new, handmade with off the shelf, things that tell a story and things that'll just make you smile. What a beautiful place!
