Restaurant & Café 1687 in the government district has committed itself to the French cuisine. Poznan native Tomasz Trabski is head chef and we may point out that we were delighted by what was served to us by a splendid Frenchman from Trabski's kitchen.

But first he hands us rosé colored sparkling wine, provides the most charming conversation and proves that he has a wide knowledge of wines. Then the kitchen welcomes us with salmon and cucumber under a cloud of smoke.

The pigeon with creamy amaranth, parsnip and gravy is as tender as marzipan. The marinated and briefly grilled tuna is finished off with melon, black radish and wasabi, while liquorice and thyme add the right pop to the buttery tender cheek of calf.

At the end there is not even the slightest bit of Petershainer sturgeon along with wonderfully tender squid left on our plates, despite how full we are. Which is why, even before the incredibly tender merengue with a fruity sallow thorn creme and an unbelievable hemp ice cream, we can verify: "What an excellent meal!"

The guests can expect further enticing delicacies from the confectioner Slawomira Slaby in the casual area of the Restaurant & Café 1687 all day: her macaroons are incredible and we can barely resist trying her heavenly-looking cakes.

These can also be enjoyed on the quiet terrace during the summer, along with exquisite dishes or even just a glass of wine. - By the time the mild summer nights return, the only thing missing will be the old church to feel like God in France.
